The corks are going to pop, but way after the New Year. On February 3rd, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Sideways on Blu-ray.
You’d think drinking a lot of wine would help someone escape his or her troubles, but in Miles Raymond’s (Paul Giamatti) case, it only creates more. Miles and his actor pal Jack Lopate (Thomas Haden Church) decide to take a weeklong road trip through the Santa Ynez Valley wine country. While Miles’ priority is the wine, Jack has his heart set on having one last romp before tying the knot when they return from their trip. The guys meet a waitress named Maya (Virginia Madsen) and her friend Stephanie (Sandra Oh) and sparks begin to fly. But, of course, Jack opts not to tell Stephanie about his fiancée back home, which puts Miles in an increasingly awkward position while working on his relationship with Maya. As the days pass the situations get more and more complicated and befuddled. At that point, the massive quantities of wine can only make their antics even more hysterical.
This film comes with a particularly good list of bonus material. Fine, I must admit, my excitement primarily comes from the fact that it includes a gag reel. Otherwise, the list is fairy modest. You’ll get commentary by Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scene featurette, a Project Searchlight element, wrap party slide show and, of course, the gag reel.
Nothing sounds better than getting to sit down with a nice glass of pinot noir and watch a fun loving drama in the pristine picture offered by a Blu-ray disc. Looks like I’ll be saving some of my holiday wine for February.
