Jyn Erso Comes To Star Wars: Battlefront In New Rogue One DLC Trailer
Electronic Arts and DICE released a new trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront featuring the heroine from the upcoming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is due to hit theaters on December 16th. The trailer is short, sweet and visually spectacular.
Uploaded to the official EA Star Wars YouTube channel, the trailer starts with a bang. We see some rebels racing across a beachfront while walkers block their path. A few rebels bite the dust when the giant laser fire strikes down and buries them in a mix of molten hot lasers and the cold, wet mud. Not all hope is lost, though. We get a quick glimpse of Jyn Erso running in from the left side of the screen to save the day.
Jyn, just like Han and Lando, has a blaster pistol and the ability to run and punch people into the air. I don't know if this is a spoiler or they just got a little lazy with her abilities, but if it's a Force punch then that would mean Jyn is Force sensitive? If it's not a Force punch then maybe it's a really, really super powerful punch. They don't really show Orson much in the Battlefront trailer, other than that he has some sort of shield device and a blaster pistol. They don't really highlight his abilities, so maybe he either has really lame abilities or they want players to be surprised.
The trailer then highlights the map of Scarif, some of the new space battles and the new items that players will be able to get their hands on. Scarif, the tropical jungle planet will be part of four different maps made available in Star Wars: Battlefront on December 6th.
They announced previously that the new content would be arriving soon, alongside the launch of the upcoming movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This is definitely a smart move from EA because last year they ran into the problem of releasing Star Wars: Battlefront around the same time as Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters but they didn't actually include any content from the movie other than a battle that took place on the planet of Jakku preceding the events of the movie.
A lot of fans had requested to play as some of the characters from the film, but EA decided against adding that kind of content into the game. This time around, they seem to be ready and on guard, having the Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic characters ripe and ready for playability just ahead of the release of the movie. It's a smart marketing move, no doubt.
This promo trailer also comes just after EA's CFO, Blake Jorgensen, made it known that Battlefield will be taking a break for the next couple of years and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will be the next big project for DICE in 2017. They plan on ramping up the content (which was one of the biggest criticisms of the first game) and adding in more movie-related gimmicks in relation to the launch of Star Wars: Episode VIII.
