Bloodborne Japanese Release Date Set For PS4 With New Trailer

One of the big games that a lot of PlayStation owners have been looking forward to is Bloodborne, a third-person hack-and-slash role-playing title from From Software, the same group that brought the gaming community the Dark Souls series. Well, the game received a brand new trailer from a recent event Sony held in Japan, along with a release date of February 5th for when it drops in the far east.

The trailer is a basic cinematic promo piece with a bit of gameplay mixed in between. There hasn't been a whole lot of info made available for the game, but from what has been showcased you wield dangerous, transformable weapons and hunt down monsters. The gameplay looks eerily similar to Dark Souls but with an extra edge of fluidity tossed in.

Based on what little we've seen of the game, I can't readily say that I'm all that impressed. The animations look pretty good for the most part and the game's appeal in combat will rests firmly on its ability to maintain 60 frames per second. Even still, the combat seems to be a lot of hack-hack-hack-roll, slash-slash-slash-roll. I'm not necessarily seeing much of an upgrade over what we already get in games like Dark Souls, or the very intriguing looking Lords of the Fallen due out this fall.

Right now the game looks like a beautifully gothic, horror-action title with some intriguing characters and a decent combat system. But given that the game is still a ways off from release, it's possible we could be seeing plenty of new footage and features that help give the game a bit more of an identity outside of just its art-style and association with From Software.

As far as the story goes, the game is set in a fictional town known as Yharnam. The player character is there to get healed. Supposedly the town offers travelers an opportunity to heal certain “ailments”. The player-character seems to be afflicted with some sort of monstrous tendacy. However, once arriving at Yharnam it becomes terribly obvious that something is amiss, as many of the townfolks have become deranged monstrosities.

Players must utilize their skills to takedown the evils they encounter while also upgrading and advancing the character in a unique and dangerous way.

Again, info on the game is terribly thin and there's nothing really say about the game other than that it's probably something Sony really needs if they want to win back the Japanese customers who have been mostly won over by Nintendo's Wii U at the moment.

For now, there's still no release date set for the title over in North America but it's likely to arrive a few months after the Japanese release.
