Borderlands 2 Son of Crawmerax DLC Ends The Game Today

Borderlands 2's last downloadable content is being released today. Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax provides players with one last challenge in the co-op shooter.

"Join Sir Hammerlock along with Brick, Mordecai, and Lilith on a relaxing vacation on Wam Bam Island as you play the biggest Headhunter add-on in the series," Gearbox says of the new DLC. "At first, everything appears peaceful as Sir Hammerlock shows off his homemade brew and talks about the latest in Varkid tracking… that is, until tragedy strikes when a monstrously large beast kidnaps the scholarly hunter and pulls him underground. Fortunately, Crazy Earl and Mordecai are on hand to help recover the mustached colleague, provided you do a few favors for them first."

The beast is Crawmerax Jr., son of the giant worm from Borderlands 1 DLC The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. Apparently giant worms have the mental and emotional capacity to plot revenge - who knew? Gearbox recommends you bring along a few friends to defeat Junior.

If you defeat Crawmerax Jr., you'll unlock his head as a customization option. All four characters will get their own tropical-themed outfit as well. For example, Axton gets a Hawaiian shirt.

The add-on costs $2.99 to download. It's available today on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. However, European PS3 owners will need to wait until Wednesday to downloads it

Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax is the last in a series of five Headhunter Packs. Each of these short add-ons provides a new boss fight along with customization options. The boss fights can be replayed at higher and higher difficulty levels to stretch out the play time.

Borderlands 2's post-launch DLC also included four story-based add-ons. These add-ons, which included Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty and Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, added new regions, quests and Achievements. The story DLC could be purchased all at once with a Season Pass but there's no bulk discount for the other add-ons.

Now that Borderlands 2 is officially done, Gearbox can focus on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Pre-Sequel introduces a new campaign set between the first two Borderlands games. The game is expected to launch this fall on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
