You’ve probably already heard about Braid, Jonathan Blow’s latest title for the Xbox LIVE Arcade. It comes in during a maelstrom of quality XBLA titles this summer, and is probably the least known entity. I’m assuming you know what Galaga is, and if not you should grab a quarter and find an arcade machine down at the local penny candy store. In any case, the puzzler shows up on XBLA this Wednesday.
Braid is a puzzle platformer where you have to save an abducted princess. Perhaps when young female spritely looking people hear they are a princess someone should train the lasses to protect themselves. There’s too much kidnapping going on in video games. To add craziness to the mix you’ll encounter time having hilarious hijinx with your mind. You’ll rewind, go to parallel realities, and a mysterious “perhaps more.” If it involves Morlocks I am screaming and crying like a little girl.
Unfortunately Microsoft has priced Braid at 1200 MS Points. Sorry, that’s just too much for a little Arcade title. I’ve come to the conclusion that 800 is a nice sweet spot for the higher end games. Braid looks fantastic, but like my momma always said when I asked for things we couldn’t afford: tough shit.
