EA At E3: Spore Details And Media Blowout, Will Wright Trumps God Year after year we’ve been talking about Spore come E3 time. This year is no different, except we now know the game is just on the horizon. It’s so close we can taste it. Or kill it and overrun the planet with whatever it is. Who knows. During the EA E3 press conference Will Wright took some time to talk about his latest creation. Let’s put it this way: Will Wright is way more intelligent than you or I. When this man thinks about games it goes far beyond the “five minutes of fun” mantra or simply trying to figure out how to design a level.

From SimCity to The Sims Will Wright has had an indelible impact on the gaming world. While Nintendo pats itself on the back for opening up the gaming market to the ederly and women Will Wright was already years into having a series popular with the general masses. He’d already figured out that gaming isn’t about graphics or the perfect sniper position. If you give people something interesting to do they’ll go ahead and essentially create a game themselves. You simply have to watch a child playing with his toys to understand how creative we humans are when it comes to playing around.

What better outlet than Spore, a game that lets you create a universe, to let our imaginations run wild? The recently released Creature Creator was intended to get a stockpile of creatures going in the Spore universe prior to the game’s release. Wright and EA had hoped to have 100,000 creatures by September’s launch. As of now there are over 1.7 million Spore creatures roaming the virtual landscape. An amazing feat to be sure.

For Mr. Wright Spore is more than just a game. He hopes that despite whatever limits it might have the game could combine the creative and scientific minds together. Perhaps we won’t cure any diseases with Spore, but if someone takes the time to analyze what’s happening in the Spore-verse they may discover a few truths about man. That sounds a bit pretentious, but when Will Wright speaks passionately about such things you can’t help but share his optimism for the future.

During the presentation Wright also used the Genesis story of God creating the universe in 7 days to give context to how many Spore creatures have already been created. People have become fixated on this fun little math problem, and most of them have taken it too seriously. Let’s not worry ourselves about fictional characters and how well they’ve done so far. There are far more important things to worry about, like watching the engaging and endearing E3 trailer for Spore. Look at that, we happen to have it for you below.
