Firefall Finally Launches On PC Today With New Trailer

It’s been a long time coming, but free-to-play third-person MMO shooter, Firefall, has finally arrived, launching today across North America, Europe and Australia for PC via Steam. Whether you’re playing for free or purchasing one of the launch packs, get ready to shoot a whole lot of holes in a whole lot of alien invaders.

Red 5 Studios, Inc. today announced the launch of their open-world shooter, Firefall, an online game that has been in development for about half a decade. In the game, players will go toe to toe with the Chosen, a group of invaders looking to claim Earth as their own. You’ll have more than your fists and good intentions to back up your cause, though, as players will be able to unleash all manner of firepower on the Chosen, as well as suit up with battleframes that grant armor and special abilities in battle.

According to Red 5 CEO James Macauley, Firefall has been a long time coming, but the development team has strived to make the final product well worth the wait.

“We designed Firefall to be our dream game, and now the team at Red 5 Studios is humbled and thrilled to see this dream become a reality with the launch of Firefall today,” Macauley said. “Firefall is built from the ground up to be a true AAA MMO experience, which allows players to explore a post-apocalyptic Earth through a well-narrated campaign and engage various threats through action-packed, skill-based combat.”

Like in any good MMO, players will be able to grab new weapons or gear from loot drop, or craft it themselves along the way. Swapping classes is also as easy as swapping which battleframe you’re donning, meaning there’s no need to create multiple characters in order to take all of the various builds for a spin.

“In addition to the campaign missions, quests, and dynamic world events, players will also have the opportunity to challenge one another on a brand-new PvP continent,” reads the launch announcement. “Known as the Broken Peninsula, players will be able to engage other players in an attempt to secure valuable resources and territory control.”

Firefall is free-to-play and you can dive right in starting today. If you feel like getting a head start on the game, there are also a couple of launch packages available. The Digital Starter Pack will set you back 30 bucks and includes exclusive warpaint for your battleframe, 100 Red Beans (in-game currencty), 30 days of VIP membership, a downladable soundtrack and art book, as well as in-game titles. The Digital Deluxe Edition is $99.99 and includes a special 2-person vehicle, all 11 available battleframes, warpaint, 90 days of VIP membership, 200 Red Beans, the soundtrack and concept art, as well as in-game titles.
