Halo 3 Back On Top Of Xbox Live

Hype Halo 3 Back On Top Of Xbox Live on N4G
Halo 3 Back On Top Of Xbox Live As you may already know, Microsoft keeps track of which games have the most weekly activity over Xbox Live. After a crowded October/November release schedule, there's been a shake-up at the top slot. The new champion is, surprisingly, the year-old Halo 3.

According to Major Nelson, the most active games for the week of November 24th are:
  1. Halo 3
  2. Gears of War 2
  3. CoD: World at War
  4. Call of Duty 4
  5. GTA IV

World At War and COD4 being beneath Halo 3 isn't that shocking, I guess. They're fairly similar games and player base for COD4 (which had the top spot locked up for quite awhile) is now split between that game and WaW, which hit stores on November 11th. The fact that Gears of War 2 isn't beating Halo 3 is interesting, though. Could be a result of the match-making problems some users were experiencing with GoW2. Epic released a patch last week to address the issue so we'll see if that causes any movement in the ranking.

You also have to wonder what the effect of new Xbox 360 owners affect the rankings too. I imagine there's been a big influx of players onto Xbox Live, between the price cuts on the console and Black Friday. Halo 3 is probably a popular choice for a first game purchase, seeing as it's cheaper than most shooters out there by now and it's the game most commonly associated with the console.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, Left 4 Dead is at #7 on that list. That one completely baffles me. Guess it's just a bigger draw on the PC?
