HexGL Brings Wipeout Quality Racing To Web Browsers

BKCore, headed up by a single dude named Thibaut Despoulain, released a new beta version of the game HexGL for web browsers. The game has a few different versions available for mobile users, low-end PC users and high-end PC users. While it may be an HTML 5, Javascript based title, it's actually a pretty good throwback to the original Wipeout, but with new-school visuals.

The game is fast-paced and generically fun. Did I also happen to mention that it's free? Yes, well it is and it's something you should know so that you don't watch the video below with your vice-grips and chastity belt firmly clasped around your wallet. This game doesn't want your wallet. It just wants a little bit of your time and maybe, just maybe...a little bit of love.

It also reminds me of Extreme-G and F-Zero on the GameCube. Both games were very similar in style to HexGL, even though technically both games actually borrow heavily from Wipeout from the PSX (although, technically, if we really want to go there, F-Zero did debut on the SNES first).

If you really dig Despoulain's work you can donate so that he can keep doing what he's doing, but don't be surprised if he ends up working on the latest 3D browser-based game for one company or another. Let's just hope he doesn't end up at Zynga...the place where souls go to die.

You can learn more about HexGL or get in some play time, for free, by paying a visit to the Official Website.
