Left 4 Dead Will Be On PS3. Wait, No, Nevermind.

Left 4 Dead Will Be On PS3. Wait, No, Nevermind. Left 4 Dead would be a great name for a zombie-themed boy band. Alas, it's simply the name of a highly anticipated survival horror shooter by Valve. It's coming to stores in November for PC, Xbox 360, and yes, even Playstation 3.

For those of you not familiar with the game, Left 4 Dead is a multiplayer coop shooter in which up to four players try to escape hordes of ravenous zombies. Four more players can jump in and control said ravenous zombie hordes. I just hope Valve had the good sense to make all of the zombies WASPs or there's going to be unpleasantness.

It might be surprising to some PS3 owners that the game is coming to their platform, especially after last week's revelation that Portal won't be released on PSN. But yes, it's true, Valve hasn't forsaken you. It's even on the cover of the Official Playstation Magazine's latest issue.

So what's the catch? The PS3 port is being developed by - ominous lightning strike - Electronic Arts. You may remember that they're the ones who made the fairly buggy PS3 port of The Orange Box. Left 4 Dead, like Orange Box, is powered by the Source engine so hopefully EA figured out where they went wrong and can ensure a smoother experience for PS3 owners this time around. It's currently unknown whether the PS3 version will be released on November 4th, the day the other versions will drop.

Update: It seems IGN got Valve's Doug Lombardi on the phone and he smited the rumor with extreme prejudice. "There is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production," Lombardi said, which seems pretty airtight to me. Oh well, no buggy Left 4 Dead for you, PS3 fans (for now, anyway). I'm sure you're devastated.

Hahaha this was in the rumors section of OPM and it was denied today. May want to recheck those sources.

Left 4 Dead on the PS3?
    Signs point to "no."

August 4, 2008 - While there have been rumors circulating the Internet that claim that Left 4 Dead, Valve's upcoming zombie-filled shooter for the PC and 360, would be coming to the PS3, it looks like there's no truth behind them. We contacted Doug Lombardi from Valve to comment on the rumor and his response was clear: "there is no PS3 version of Left 4 Dead currently in production."

It appears that PS3 owners are out of luck -- at least for now.

What is unsaid here is that the Valve guy left the door wide open after that, saying "If the game is good and succesful, EA will probably do it on PS3".
EA already have commented on this previously saying: There will be a Left 4 Dead PS3 version.

    Connect the dots...

Valve is merely doing some lip service to their buddies at MS.
