Quantic Dream, the French studio behind Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit in Europe) has another third-person adventure game on the way called Heavy Rain. They proudly showed off the first gameplay video at the Sony press conference at Leipzig, which you may now ogle from your very own home via some sort of "world wide web."
The minute-and-a-half Heavy Rain video is real-time, actual gameplay footage. It shows a woman breaking into an dark, abandoned home. She sees some sort of spirits and is then ambushed by a man with a knife. The whole thing just looked like a cut scene until the fight started and button symbols popped up on screen in rapid succession. Basically, it looks like Dragon's Lair where you have to press buttons quickly or else. It's likely a bit more complicated than that, though - or at least I hope so because I seriously hated Dragon's Lair and other Sega CD "interactive movie" games.
Regardless, the video is worth a look because of how gorgeous and creepy it is. I never played Indigo Prophecy but its gameplay and story floored a lot of people so keep your eye on this one. Heavy Rain will be released exclusively on PS3 in the first quarter of 2009.
