New Alone In The Dark Screens

Atari wants you to believe, and damnit I want to believe. Alone in the Dark is looking like a real contender for supreme ruler of the action/horror genre. The series that kick started the popularity of the genre before there were any residents being evil is about to make its return. June 24th we’ll find out if the episodic storytelling of an evil overrun Central Park delivers the goods we’ve been hoping for.

The gameplay design concept behind Alone in the Dark is certainly intriguing. Atari is doing this one as episodic content, but have no fear about waiting 2 years to play the next part. Rather than taking the Valve approach of one episode every three years, Atari will release the entire game at once. But with my current hectic schedule a move like this could help the busy gamers of the world finish the game. Honestly ask yourself how many games you’ve got next to your console that are unfinished. The ability to pick one of them back up and get a quick refresher video before playing might make it easier to get back into the game. Or maybe not. It really depends on how good the episodes – and therefore the game – really are.
