PAX Brings Five New Indie Game Announcements For PlayStation

With PAX Prime in full swing, the folks over in the PlayStation camp have decided that now would be a good time to announce quite a few new title coming to the PS3, PS4 and Vita. Get ready for Dust: An Elysian Tail, Nidhogg, Salt and Sanctuary, Alone with You and a blast from the past, Metal Slug 3.

Assuming you're not one of those people who gets up and arms about non-AAA games releasing on a console, then this week's news should be quite welcome for those of you gaming on PlayStation consoles. From indie darlings to mid-tier hits, there's a little something for everyone in this week's collection of new game announcements.

First up is Dust: An Elysian Tale, the ambitious action platformer from Humble Hearts. Releasing a while back on the Xbox 360, Dust transports players to a mystical world of beautiful hand drawn environments. Creator Dean Dodrill describes Dust as a “2D side-scrolling platformer, with crazy-fast swordplay and screen-clearing magic.” Look for it on the PlayStation 4 “soon” and snag more details on the PlayStation Blog.

Next up is Salt and Sanctuary, arriving exclusively on the PS4 and Vita. Coming from Ska Studios, the creators of The Dishwasher series on Xbox 360, their new game is all about dark fantasy, insane platforming and powerful magics. Looking like a cross between Castlevania and the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Salt and Sanctuary could be a breath of fresh air for fans of the genre when it releases next year.

And while we already knew that side-scrolling fencing game, Nidhogg, would be coming to PlayStation 4 eventually, it was also announced that a PS Vita version is in the works. It will, of course, be a cross-buy title between the home and portable consoles, offer up online play and, in the Vita version, even allow two-player combat on a single system. Niiiice.

Next we have Alone with You, announced at PAX for PS4 and the Vita. This intriguing indie title puts players in the role of the sole surviving member of a terraforming colony. What's worse is the fact that your planet is quickly dying, likely to implode within less than a month. Can you find the ability and a good reason to survive with nothing but your wits and a computer AI to keep you gong? Find out sometime in 2015.

Finally, for those of you who still enjoy a good retro romp every now and again, the folks at SNK Playmore have announced that their next revitalized title will be Metal Slug 3. Even better is the fact that the team is continuing their tradition of making old games new again in the new generation, releasing MS3 on the PS3, Vita and the PS4.
