Project Phoenix Kickstarter Campaign Has Just One Day Left

The hour grows late for Project Phoenix, the indie Japanese RPG that aims to bring the strategic genre kicking and screaming into the modern age with well-known talent from the East and West. With just over one day remaining in the game’s Kickstarter campaign, Project Phoenix handily cleared its original goal and is now charging toward the finish line with an additional stretch goal or two caught in its sites.

As we reported late last month, Project Phoenix began its Kickstarter campaign on Aug. 10 and easily cleared its initial goal of $100,000 in the first day. Funding contributions slowed quite a bit after that initial surge, but the near-final outcome certainly isn’t anything to scoff at. As of this writing, the game has 33 hours left to go in its Kickstarter drive and has raised a total of $863,429 from 14,111 backers.

At this rate, it’s not hard to imagine Project Phoenix breaking its next stretch goal of $1,025,000. It may even tackle another goal or two on top of that, as the final day of big Kickstarter campaigns like this one typically bring in a bunch of additional contributions in the final 24 hours. Folks who have been eagerly watching the progress suddenly realize how cool it would be to earn some additional bells and whistles in the final product, and so either throw a few dollars onto their existing contribution or jump on the bandwagon before it’s too late.

If Project Phoenix hits its next milestone, the game will include a “fully explorable overworld complete with an upgraded combat transition.” From there, it’s just a hop, skip and a jump away from $1,650,000, which will mean two additional zones within the game, side stories, as well as (dare we dream) collaboration from Eminence, Uematsu and John Kurlander. There are a bunch of additional stretch goals left, but I don’t want to get too greedy with my fantasizing just yet.

With Hiroaki Yura serving as director and producer, Project Phoenix boasts an impressive list of talent tied to the project, including developers, programmers, composers, voice actors and more coming from huge series and massively popular games. If you head on over to the game’s Kickstarter page, you can take a gander at the killer crop of talent that has been assembled, as well as find out why everyone is so excited for this game. In short, the team plans to take the stagnant strategy RPG genre and modernize it, doing away with tired and outdated trappings in order to make a more exciting and engaging gameplay experience. Planned for a launch on Windows, Mac and Linux, the team has also announced that Project Phoenix will be making the jump to a slew of new platforms, including Android, iOS, the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Vita.

That’s all great news but, again, there’s still a day left in the campaign. Let’s see how far Project Phoenix will soar once all is said and done.
