Shadow Of The Eternals Heads Back To Kickstarter July 25th

It looks like Shadow of the Eternals, the spiritual successor to the GameCube classic horror game, Eternal Darkness hasn't faded into the shadows just yet. After calling a halt to the game's previous Kickstarter campaign, the developers at Precursor Games have announced that a new Kickstarter campaign will be, if you'll pardon the pun, kicking off on July 25.

Made up of former members of the Silicon Knights crew, Precursor Games earlier this year revealed a teaser trailer for Shadow of the Eternals, stating that it was being planned as a follow-up to the former studio's beloved cult hit, Eternal Darkness for the Wii U and PC.

Shortly after launching the games first Kickstarter campaign, however, lots of speculation started popping up concerning the game, its creators' past with a financially unstable company and a somewhat confusing second crowdfunding campaign launched on their own website.

Once funding came to a screeching halt, the developers stated that some new opportunities had arisen and canceled the crowdfunding efforts. Then, today, a blog post went up on the Precursor website announcing a second Kickstarter campaign to go live on July 25.

“We really want to thank our community and followers for the unwavering support and patience over the past few weeks,” reads the blog post. “It's been a huge inspiration and motivation for us. Your feedback has been instrumental in many ways throughout the process of creating the new campaign and we can't wait for you to see what we have in store for you all.”

There are no real details beyond that, so it sounds like the team maybe learned from their previous attempt, put together a more solid and transparent campaign, and is going to take another stab at it. We don't even know an official amount for the campaign yet.

Originally planned as an episodic adventure, it's possible that even the nature of the game could change. Maybe we'll even see additional console launches as stretch goals? There's no telling at this point but, for those of us who loved Eternal Darkness and have always dreamed of a sequel, maybe this second run at funding will help see that dream finally come to fruition.

If you're interested in being part of the process, the team is also currently holding a contest beginning Monday, July 15, giving artistic types the opportunity to have their artwork and slogan for Shadows of the Eternals appear on a t-shirt to be included as one of the Kickstarter rewards. More details on the contest will be available on the Precursor website on Monday. Otherwise, it looks like we'll have to wait until the end of the month see see what this latest crowdfunding effort looks like.
