If the just announced 2008 Golden Globe nominations are any indication, it’s going to be another long and predictable awards season. One in which voters forget about anything that wasn’t released 3 weeks ago in favor of latching on to whatever movies they’ve been told they’re supposed to vote for. Very few surprises in this list, and aside from the Goldes’ always weird separate “musical and comedy” category, very few movies that could be categorized as anything other than depressing. Mostly though, I’m bitterly disappointed that great early year movies like Black Snake Moan and The Lookout are probably going to be completely ignored not just by the Globes but by everyone else, simply because they didn’t come out in December. Instead, the Globes are showering love on lame duck, dead end movies like Michael Clayton.
Here’s the full list of film nominees for the 2008 Golden Globes.
