A New Gambit Rumor For Wolverine

A New Gambit Rumor For Wolverine As we reported yesterday, the Wolverine spin-off movie seems to be filling up with mutant cameos much like the other movies in the X-Men franchise. Previous rumors include an appearance by The Blob and a possible launching off point for a Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds. Now the buzz is returning around the possible appearance by the ragin’ Cajin, Gambit.

This isn’t the first time Gambit’s name has popped up as being associated with Wolverine, although the IESB report seems to indicate this has moved beyond rumor phase and that the part has already been cast, with Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch in the role.

I never got into Friday Night Lights, so I can’t attest to Kitsch’s abilities, but I find this a bit disappointing. As one Cinema Blend reader likes to point out every time Gambit’s name is raised, there really is only one candidate for the role: Lost’s Josh Holloway. Apparently producer Lauren Shuler Donner agrees, but it looks like they’ve taken a younger approach regardless.

Much like the previously rumored appearances, there’s no indication how large or small Gambit’s role would be in the movie, so this could just be a quick background appearance or he could be a substantial part of the film (previous drafts of Wolverine included Gambit at some length).

What do you think? Are you as disappointed by this possibility as I am, or is Kitsch’s name a promising addition?

Forget is, Josh Holloway is absolutely drop-down perfect, why would they screw this up? He could shoot his cameo and be back in time to start producing those last few Lost eps.
    PLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSE?

  1. Drew Douglas Says:

Friday Night Lights is one of the best shows on TV right now and Taylor Kitsch is my second favorite character. He is able to convey so much depth into his role without ever saying a word.

    Great casting decision. Trust me.

  1. Calder Says:

I like Friday Night Lights, and Kitsch is a great in the show, but I don't see Kitsch having the bravado needed for Gambit. Sure Kitsch can do moody and brooding, but Gambit has to have that cajun flair. Honestly, it seems like Fox just cast the current pretty boy in Hollywood.

  1. Kris Says:

What I dont understand is why they keep insisting on casting such young actors, Gambit isnt 20 years old... All the best characters from the series so far have been the older actors.

  1. Lee Says:

Taylor Kitsch is an unbelievable actor. If anyone has caught Friday Night Lights, they will have no doubt as to his ability to pull off this role. He is definitely one actor to watch out for in the future!!!

  1. Snew Says:

As perfect as Josh Holloway may have been, information is that he turned the part down, so casting Taylor Kitsch is an excellent decision. He has all the qualities needed to make this part his own and do an excellent job.
