As we reported yesterday, the Wolverine spin-off movie seems to be filling up with mutant cameos much like the other movies in the X-Men franchise. Previous rumors include an appearance by The Blob and a possible launching off point for a Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds. Now the buzz is returning around the possible appearance by the ragin’ Cajin, Gambit.
This isn’t the first time Gambit’s name has popped up as being associated with Wolverine, although the IESB report seems to indicate this has moved beyond rumor phase and that the part has already been cast, with Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch in the role. I never got into Friday Night Lights, so I can’t attest to Kitsch’s abilities, but I find this a bit disappointing. As one Cinema Blend reader likes to point out every time Gambit’s name is raised, there really is only one candidate for the role: Lost’s Josh Holloway. Apparently producer Lauren Shuler Donner agrees, but it looks like they’ve taken a younger approach regardless. Much like the previously rumored appearances, there’s no indication how large or small Gambit’s role would be in the movie, so this could just be a quick background appearance or he could be a substantial part of the film (previous drafts of Wolverine included Gambit at some length). What do you think? Are you as disappointed by this possibility as I am, or is Kitsch’s name a promising addition?
