The Amazing Spider-Man 2's Jamie Foxx Has His Fingers Crossed For The Sinister Six
As much as there is to enjoy in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies, one flaw that always stuck out to me was the way the big bad villain would almost always die in the end. Killing them off meant that it would be incredibly difficult to ever bring them back , thus preventing the establishment of a bigger universe. But those films were the nascent days of comic book movies, long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Batman vs. Superman. Now, to quote director Marc Webb, the driving force behind the genre has become the idea of "think bigger," and it's that thinking that very well could end up leading to seeing The Sinister Six in the future of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
We've theorized about this idea before and even got Marc Webb comment on it, but now it's Total Film that got Jamie Foxx to put in his two cents about the potential supervillain team-up from the comics. In a recent interview with the magazine, the actor, who will be playing the villainous Electro in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was asked about how he would feel about joining the aforementioned group and replied, "Yes, they actually talked about it, the Sinister Six. So, fingers crossed, because when you think about it, electricity never dies, it just goes to a different place." Obviously this isn't really a confirmation that plans are in motion, but it's clear that it's being discussed behind the scenes.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the comics, the Sinister Six is a team of six supervillains from Spider-Man's rogues gallery who decide to team up and kill the superhero together. The first incarnation of the group, which was first introduced in 1964, included Doctor Octopus as the leader, Electro, Kraven The Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman and Vulture. The lineup has changed many times over the years as new members come and go.
Looking at the cast list of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 it becomes clear that something is definitely brewing in the comic book movie series. Not only is Foxx playing Electro in the film, Chris Cooper is signed on to play Norman Osborn (the man who eventually becomes Green Goblin), and Paul Giamatti is also on-board to play Aleksei Sytsevich a.k.a. The Rhino. There have also been rumors saying that Colm Feore will be playing Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture, but that hasn't yet been confirmed. It's not a complete line-up, but if you include the fact that Rhys Ifans' Dr. Curt Connors a.k.a. The Lizard is still walking around that makes a total of five, which means they only need one more.
At this stage it's all just speculation, but it's a riddle that we're eager to learn the answer to. In addition to the actors mentioned above, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Martin Sheen and Chris Zylka will all be back to reprise their roles from the first movie. Other new additions to the series in the sequel will be Dane DeHaan (as Harry Osborn), Sarah Gadon, B.J. Novak and Felicity Jones. Look for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters on May 2, 2014.
