Daughter of the Queen of Sheba isn't exactly what you might expect based on the title. It's not a historical epic about the ancient ruler, but is a modern-day drama that involves the war in Iraq, NPR and fraught mother-daughter relationships, with Amy Adams starring as Jacki Lyden, a woman who is very much real and still alive.
Like I said, it's not the usual. Variety reports that Adams has signed on to the drama, written by Karen Croner based on Lyden's life. Lyden was a reporter for NPR based in Afghanistan, and reported her translator's slaying at the hands of American soldiers. She also apparently had a very, very crazy mom. Adams is up to just about anything in my book, and a movie taking place in a war zone might let viewers see her as something other than the fluffy princess of Enchanted. Co-starring twice with Meryl Streep in the next year (in Doubt and Julie and Julia), Adams will have built up a serious resume by the time Queen of Sheba hits theaters.
