Another Superhero Is Set To Appear In Batman V Superman
While Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will revolve around the conflict between the two title characters, the epic superhero movie keeps adding superpowered characters to it’s lineup. With Wonder Woman playing a big role, and Aquaman and Cyborg being introduced as well it’s quickly getting very crowded in the DC Universe. Michael Wilkinson, who is the costume designer for Batman V Superman, recently let it slip that we’ll definitely be seeing The Flash in the upcoming superhero clash film:
Bring on the heroes! While it’s been rumored that we may be having our first view of The Flash in Batman V Superman, this statement put it in stone straight from a member of the design team. Basically, DC is using this film to introduce the entire new Cinematic Universe, which seems like a brilliant move. Batman V Superman is sure to be one of the biggest films of the new year, so why not use this opportunity to use the audience’s investment in Batman to convince them to see each of the movies that will follow.
The character of The Flash/ Barry Allen will be played by young actor Ezra Miller, who will go on to star in his own film as the famous speedster. Miller is best known to audiences for playing Patrick in the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s Perks of Being a Wallflower, as well as a supporting character in Amy Schumer’s hit comedy Trainwreck earlier this year.
Ezra Miller seems like a great casting choice for The Flash for a few reasons. For one, his performances thus far have all been rather high-energy. This will surely translate well to the frantically energetic and wise-cracking Flash. Additionally, the age difference between himself and Batfleck/ Henry Cavill will help create a dynamic group of heroes that the audience will enjoy see working together.
The character of The Flash has been gaining more fans at a superheroic speed. With the massive success of CW’s series, aptly named The Flash, the average viewer is more interested in the fastest man alive than ever before. Indeed, it’s surprising that Zack Snyder and the folks developing the new DC Cinematic Universe didn’t choose to cast The Flash’s leading man Grant Gustin to reprise his role in the films. Then again, having to work around Gustin’s schedule may have proved challenging moving forward. Additionally, if a new universe is being created, it might as well cast a slew of fresh faces for the viewers to meet and follow.
Regardless, I’m psyched that we’re getting to see live-action adaptations of so many heroes in Batman V Superman. While The Flash’s role will likely be minimal to start, it will hopefully be able to show how the DC Universe is planning to portray his superspeed moving forward.
And let’s get real- I just want The Justice League to happen as soon as possible.
