Boba Fett Movie May Be Written By Lawrence Kasdan

You start hearing the same rumors, over and over again, and they start to feel like fact. When it comes to the Star Wars standalone movies – the ones that will exist outside of the saga being launched by J.J. Abrams – the names "Han Solo" and "Boba Fett" have been repeated by various outlets, so we just assume that they will be the focal points of those films once they launch. And now we hear a bit more information that might signify the start of Boba Fett’s movie, with a trusted creative voice at the center of the effort.

The AMC Movie Talk Web Cast reports that Lawrence Kasdan will write the standalone movie centered on Boba Fett. Jon Schnepp, one of the regular contributors to that podcast (and someone who has had Star Wars scoops in the past) says, "One of [the Star Wars spinoffs] is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."

We’ve heard this before. In fact, we’ve heard this numerous times. And Lawrence Kasdan has been linked to this new phase of Star Wars movies from the very beginning, with some thinking that he’d write one of the trilogy chapters, and others thinking that he’d tackle a standalone – either Han Solo or Boba Fett.

Lawrence Kasdan has been connected the Star Wars through the years, having penned Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He’s a director in his own right, having helmed The Big Chill and Grand Canyon. But we already know that Disney and LucasFilm have hired Josh Trank (Chronicle) and Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) to helm the standalone films. We just don’t know which ones they are tasked with.

It’s our guess that Trank will helm the Han Solo movie, with frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan possibly playing along as a young Lando Calrissian. That could mean Edwards is helming the Boba Fett film, from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan. To the best of our knowledge, the release schedule of the next few Star Wars movies will be as follows:

2015: Episode VII?2016: Boba Fett?2017: Episode VIII?2018: Han Solo?2019: Episode IX?2020: Red Five
