Channing Tatum Looks Beaten And Serious On The New Foxcatcher Poster

It was just a couple weeks ago that Channing Tatum was back in theaters once again playing the mentally deficient Officer Greg Jenko and stirring up laughs in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's 22 Jump Street. His second live action film of 2014, as you can see from the brand new poster you see above, won't be quite as smile-inducing.

People Magazine has debuted the first one-sheet for Bennett Miller's upcoming true story drama Foxcatcher, and it would appear that Channing Tatum is ready to put on one of the most dramatic performances of his career. Starring as wrestler Mark Schultz, the star not only looks physically imposing on this print, but also sports a strange-looking swollen nose - probably a result of his training.

Based on Schultz's autobiography and adapted by screenwriters E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, Foxcatcher tells the story of how the young wrestler came to be coached by John Eleuthère du Pont - a member of the famous du Pont family, a patriot, a millionaire, and a paranoid schizophrenic. Driven by his passion to live up to the legend of his brother Dave Schultz, an Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler, Mark trains hard at du Pont's Team Foxcatcher wrestling center, even as John's demands become harsher and more psychotic. Things come to a breaking point when du Pont kills Dave Schultz and enters into a standoff with the police barricaded inside his compound. Steve Carell, who is wearing a surprising amount of prosthetic makeup in the movie, will be playing du Pont, while Mark Ruffalo stars as Dave Schultz.

Foxcatcher was originally supposed to be released last year, but Sony wound up deciding to push it at the last minute to 2014. It looks like the movie will be worth the wait. Following the film's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, critics absolutely drooled over it, praising both Miller's direction and performances of the leads (particularly Carell's, which has been called "career changing"). Basically, you can expect that this movie will be one of the titles listed among contenders for the 2015 Academy Awards' Best Picture trophy.

The world premiere may have already happened and we may be seeing this new poster now, but it's going to be a while before Foxcatcher will actually be heading to a theater near you. Seated in a perfect position for Oscar season, the drama will be arriving in theaters on November 14th - the same date as Dumb and Dumber To and the World War II tank movie Fury. If a new one-sheet is arriving online now, that probably means we might be getting a new trailer soon as well. Stay tuned in the next couple days/weeks to see more from the film.
