Michael Chiklis has been out promoting his part in The Fantastic Four, and MTV had the good sense to ask him about the possibility of making a movie out of his other big character, ‘The Shield’s’ Vic Mackey.
Because he’s no idiot, Chiklis indicated that he’d love to do it. He says, “Wow, there are a lot of questions about the potential of a ‘Shield’ movie these days… I don’t dismiss the possibility at all. I think it’s potentially very real. It would all really depend on the idea. We are very, very protective of ‘The Shield’.” But Chiklis is getting a little greedy. He doesn’t just want a Shield movie, he wants a Shield movie that’s all about him. More me he says: “I don’t think ‘The Shield’ will be a movie… But I think that there’s potential for Vic Mackey to be in a movie.”
‘The Shield’ is currently in its 7th season on FX, and it’s probably their last. There’s a good chance that Vic Mackey may end up dead before it’s over, diminishing the chances for a movie. Actually, let’s face it there’s probably not much of a shot at this thing becoming a movie anyway. I have friends who love ‘The Shield” and I know it has a lot of fans, but lets face it it’s on FX. Even if it’s the highest rated show on the channel, it’s audience is limited. Worse, since it’s a cop show I doubt it has the kind of insanely, obsessively, frighteningly devoted viewers that you get with science fiction franchises like Star Trek. What I’m saying here is that ‘Shield’ viewers are more likely to be normal, well-adjusted people than the fans of a show like ‘Battlestar Galactica.’ This is probably a non-story.

Gee, as a fan of both The Shield and Battlestar Galactica, I really appreciate your lame comment. I'll go take my terribly confused, abnormal, non-well-adjusted self to someone else's site who isn't such a closed-minded, offensive oaf whose probably never watched BSG. And I'll continue to enjoy The Shield just fine as well, thank you.
Actually, as anyone who has read more than one news story on this site knows, I'm a HUGE Battlestar Galactica fan, and so is just about everyone else who writes for this site.
I was talking about myself. I think I'm entitled to do that.
