The mysterious trailer which debuted before Transformers has been the subject of speculation and conversation all over the www this week, but the thing has never gotten an official internet release. We know it’s called Cloverfield, it looks like a giant monster movie of some sort, and that’s really just about it. The film is produced by JJ Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, written by Drew Goddard, and several sources are claiming the entire thing was shot with a camcorder, which probably means lots of annoying shaky cam stuff.
For those of you who haven’t been able to catch the trailer yet, people have been out with their cellphones recording the trailer and plopping it on YouTube. Hard to say how long it’ll be up there, but I’ve posted a couple of different (unfortunately very low quality) versions for you below, in the hopes that you’ll be able to check it out.
Strangely, the trailer looks like a Godzilla movie more than anything, though many people have been confusing this with a trailer for Transformers 2. Check it out:
Update 4/5/07: This morning the internet was blanketed with cease & desists and the video was pulled from YouTube. Apparently movie studios are no longer interested in actually having people watch their movie trailers. They seem to exist primarily as a means of getting corporate sponsorships and controlling the press.
