Matt Stone and Trey Parker are probably having a great laugh right about now. The “South Park” creators created their film Team America: World Police as both a tribute and a joke on the old “Thunderbirds” style of puppet animation. Somehow, though, they brought it back, and a similar style will be used for the upcoming Agent Crush, a spoof on James Bond spy movies.
Fantastic Four star Ioan Gruffudd will voice the title character, and he shared some information in a recent interview with Sci-Fi Wire. It's the old animation of using puppets, but they're not on strings anymore. They're mechanical puppets.” Gruffudd says he’s happy to represent a goofy-007 type character, although he’s not the only talent in the film. The cast includes Neve Campbell, Brian Cox, Alice Evans, and even a real James Bond: Roger Moore.
Agent Crush is currently in post production, slated for a release next year and is a first production from writer/director Sean Robinson and producer Barrie Robinson. Check out the poster below:

Spoofs are hard to do and so few people do them well. "Get Smart!" and "Sledge Hammer!" are two examples of how to do it right. (It's probably the reason both are big hits on DVD after so many years, despite Rafe trashing both shows in past reviews.) "Team America" was ill concieved in every way and this will probably make its world debut on Bit Torrent and nowhere else. Wow, a Bond spoof... how relevant!
Actually, I was a great fan of "Sledge Hammer" and I can't recall ever saying anything bad about either "Sledge" or "Get Smart". Both were excellent comedy.
In a previous column awhile ago you questioned why it was put out on DVD, implying the show didn't have a following. There have been many, many articles stating how well it sold on DVD and it renewed the critical acclaim for the series.
I was animatronic/puppet supervisor on this movie and know EXACTLY where your coming from with your comments and, dare I say it, pre-conceptions, I have to say this movie was entirely made by a team who give a sh!t and funded with little more than enthusiasm and in this age where the industry, on a whole, is run by accountants and loyers, believe this alone gives it right to exist...!?
I have watched a rough cut of the film and found it hard to pull myself away from it, what that means I don\'t know, I just know that I enjoyed it....
