Batman may be taken out by a bunch of stoners. It looks like Pineapple Express could be well on its way to being the movie that knocked The Dark Knight out of the box office’s number one spot. The Dark Knight, already in its fourth week of release, has been seen and seen again and again by nearly everyone, leaving the door open for someone else to make a move.
Pineapple Express opened on Wednesday and totally whupped up on TDK for at least that single day. Of course so did Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Pineapple earned $12 million on Wednesday to TDK’s $5 million, with Sisterhood wedged between them at number two, narrowly edging out the biggest superhero movie of all time with $5.7 million.
Of course, that may all change come this weekend. It’s possible that the stoner crowd may have exhausted whatever energy it has left after inhaling so much smoke on getting to the theater Wednesday, leaving room for the TDK obssessives to push Bats back into the number one position. Right now though, that doesn’t seem likely. Of course TDK is nearly a month old, it had to be beaten some time.
To be Titanic you have to build momentum slowly, while Dark Knight came out throwing haymakers early. I doubt Warner Brothers is complaining. They have, at the least, the second biggest movie of all time on their hands.

Doubt it. Went to see this on Wed and it was packed. Went to see it again on Thu same time, same place and the theater was half full. Big time drop off. Seen a few headlines about this too. TDK will endure.
