Darren Aronofsky Added To The List Of Potential Superman Directors

After months of speculation regarding who would be the director to helm the next installment in the Superman franchise, the internet was on the verge of exploding last week when it was reported that producers Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas were looking at Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Zack Snyder, Duncan Jones and Jonathan Liebesman for the position. Since then we've seen responses from three of the directors, with Jones being the only real-looking one. Now another big name is entering the arena.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Darren Aronofsky, fresh out of Toronto after blowing away audiences with his newest film, Black Swan, has entered the Superman race. Citing unnamed sources, Nolan has already spoken with the director about the position. While Superman would be Aronofsky's first studio film, it's not the first franchise he has flirted with, having been attached to a Robocop reboot for nearly two years now.

The most experienced director mentioned thus far outside of Scott and arguably the most talented, one can only imagine what an Aronofsky-visioned Man Of Steel would look like. His entire filmography is based on dark worlds and broken characters, so it would be completely unlike anything we've seen from the character in movies before. Really the biggest conflict would be between the director and Nolan, both of whom have such incredible vision, but if they could make it work, it could be brilliant.
