Demian Bichir Does Comedy In The Runway Trailer

After decades of plugging away with a variety of film and television productions, Mexico-born actor Demián Bichir broke through last winter with A Better Life. Most of the indie drama's success can be attributed solely to Bichir's subtle yet exquisite performance as a hardworking Mexican gardener trying to build opportunities for his son in East L.A., while avoiding the notice of immigration agents who could deport him. The resounding praise for his portrayal culminated in his first Oscar nomination, pitting him against such A-listers as Brad Pitt (Moneyball), George Clooney (The Descendants) and Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

Though he didn't win that night, Bichir has since won the notice of Hollywood, and with that kind of attention comes the re-emergence of older films that can now get traction thanks to the star's involvement. Lucky for Bichir, in his case this feature is only The Runway, a frothy family comedy about a South American pilot who crash lands in County Cork, Ireland, and subsequently befriends a young boy who desperately craves a father figure. Tribeca Film has acquired The Runway's U.S. distribution rights, and is promoting its fast approaching release with a cheery trailer, which you can check out below:

Bichir can now been seen in Oliver Stone's Savages, and while some are insisting this over-the-top crime thriller is a comedy, Bichir's character doesn't share in any of the laughs. To that end, it's nice to see this compelling actor in something light-hearted.

The Runway will be available On Demand July 18th. A limited theatrical release will follow on July 20th.
