A few months ago, Sandra Bullock signed on to appear in the Kim Barker penned All About Steve. The story centers around Bullock, a brilliant crossword clue constructor who falls madly and obsessively in love with a CNN cameraman. Naturally, her creepy feelings are not reciprocated, and she begins following him around the country in a desperate attempt to woo him and win his heart. I guess Hallmark must have been closed.
I love crossword puzzles. In fact, some may even consider my hour-consuming hobby unhealthy, but I’m guessing Phil Traill would understand. The Hollywood Reporter is claiming the former ‘Spoons’ director will move behind the camera to helm his first feature film. Traill broke onto the British movie scene in the early ‘aughts with the award-winning short films Flipped and Dangle. Yeah, I haven’t seen them either.
I really want to be excited about this movie, but I’m not sure simply having a crossword puzzle theme can counterbalance Sandra Bullock (Forces Of Nature) and a freshman director. Even my love for hockey couldn’t save Stephen Baldwin and friends in Slap Shot 2. Still, my optimism is currently outweighing the possible glaring holes. Here’s hoping my enthusiasm is warranted, and this one ends up a little more like A Time To Kill and a little less like Miss Congeniality 2.
