Django Unchained And Ted Earn The Most Nominations For The 2013 MTV Movie Awards
Voting is officially open for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. The nominations for the past year's crop of movies were announced tonight, with Django Unchained and Ted tied for the most nominations, with seven each. Coming in just behind those two are Silver Linings Playbook with six nominations and The Dark Knight Rises with 5. The Avengers, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Pitch Perfect and Skyfall received four nominations a piece.
The MTV Movie Awards are an opportunity to celebrate some of the more mainstream flicks, with comedies, action films getting the appreciation that don't often receive at the Oscars. This year's contenders for Movie of the Year are Seth MacFarlane's Ted, David O' Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, Joss Whedon's The Avengers and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Here's the full list of nominees.
It's good to see Magic Mike and Pitch Perfect getting some love. Not getting quite as much appreciation is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. MTV seemed to be phasing out their Twilight appreciation last year, offering Part 1 just two nominations. This year, it's narrowed down even further, with Taylor Lautner getting the sole nomination for taking his shirt off during one of the more amusing moments of the film, as Billy Burke's Charlie awkwardly pleaded with Jacob to put his clothes on. And to think, had Jacob complied, Twilight might have been snubbed completely this year. Lautner is up against Channing Tatum, Christian Bale, Daniel Craig and Seth MacFarlane (as Ted) for that new award.
While the nominees were selected by a "special voting Academy," which according to MTV, includes members of the MTV audience, fans get to vote for their picks to win. Visit MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote. Pitch Perfect's Rebel Wilson is hosting this year's ceremony, which airs live, Sunday, April 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
