Dumb And Dumber To Adds Rob Riggle
With production on the upcoming Dumb and Dumber To having already begun, Peter and Bobby Farrelly are putting the final touches on the film's cast, and today it's being reported that they have added one of Hollywood's more popular comedic character actors to the ensemble. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Rob Riggle, the Marine-turned-entertainer who has starred in movies like 21 Jump Street and The Other Guys, is now attached to play a dual role in the anticipated sequel to the 1994 comedy hit.
Reuniting pals Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels), the new film finds the duo on yet another road trip. This time they are on the hunt for Harry's illegitimate daughter who is in need of a kidney transplant. Along the way they get caught up in the dangerous drama of a wealthy family, with The Walking Dead's Laurie Holden playing a step-mother who is looking to kill her rich doctor husband (Steve Tom) and her step-daughter Penny (Rachel Melvin) so that she can take the family's money and run away with the handyman. Kathleen Turner is also attached to play Fraida Felcher, the woman who Harry and Lloyd discussed while sitting together in a hot tub in the first movie. While it was originally reported that Sean Anders and John Morris of We're The Millers wrote the script, THR says that the most recent draft was written by Farrellys along with Bennett Yellin and Mike Cerrone.
For his part, Riggle will be serving double duty on the production playing a pair of very strange twins. One of the brothers is Travis, the aforementioned handyman who Holden's character wishes to run away with, but Riggle's other character is Travis' "unstable brother, Captain Lippencott." Expect at least one big plot twist in the film to be that the characters' identities have been confused.
Riggle hasn't been on the big screen all that much in 2013, only appearing in a supporting role alongside Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson in The Internship, but he has kept crazy busy on the small screen. In addition to his gig on The Daily Show he has appeared in episodes of Adult Swim's NTSF:SD:SUV, Drunk History, and Modern Family. Coming up he has the comedy Let's Be Cops with Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., and THR says that he will also be back for Phil Lord and Chris Miller's 22 Jump Street (though this is the first we're hearing about that).
Cameras are currently rolling on Dumb and Dumber To and Universal Pictures is set to distribute the film (after the project broke away from Warner Bros. and New Line), but the studio has not yet set a release date. Based on the production schedule, however, you can expect it to come out some time next year, most likely sometime during the summer season.
