Emmy Rossum Joining Dragonball Z Cast

By Katey Rich: 2007-12-15 15:37:19
Emmy Rossum Joining Dragonball Z Cast Remember when Emmy Rossum was supposed to be the Next Big Thing? She ran away from all those waves in The Day After Tomorrow and made out with Jake Gyllenhaal by the fire even though the world was ending, and then she sang her heart out in the Phantom of the Opera movie that nobody saw. Then she kind of disappeared, and I’ll bet until I mentioned The Day After Tomorrow you had no idea who I was talking about.

Now she’s back... sort of. She’s joining the cast of Dragonball Z, a live-action update of the popular Japanese manga. The Hollywood Reporter isn’t saying who she’s playing, but two other cast members were recently added in specific roles: Eriko Tamuro, a.k.a. Yaeko from Heroes, will play Mai, and Korean pop star Joon Park will play Yamcha.

Maybe I’m just biased against Japanese manga, in that I do not understand it at all, but this doesn’t really sound like the big comeback 21-year old Rossum is looking for. She’s got a Christmas album out and she can probably go forever based on her voice, but if she’s looking for a legit movie career, a manga adaptation doesn’t exactly scream “Mainstream success!” I mean, the biggest star in this thing is James Marsters, a.k.a. Spike from Buffy. But, for anyone who admired her talents at running away from tidal waves and has been waiting for her to stop singing and get back on the screen, it's time to start getting excited.

  1. anonymous Says:

She took a break from acting after Poseidon to record her debut album "Inside Out". That released in October 07. She then released the 3 song xmas EP as sort of a bonus to that. She's said she wants to balance singing with acting

  1. Dragon Says:

I have this uneasy feeling, in my gut, for some one, that wants to create these balances, and not fully focus, on a single thing, such as acting. Now, I am not sure about any one else, but I just feel that this new Dragonball adaption will solely be a movie, with stunning eye-candy effects, yet with out any sort of substance, what so ever. Either way, this should make big chunk of money, for the fat cats. It is just a darn shame, that the Dragonball spirit could potentially become tarnished, during this drastic process.

  1. Homeboy Says:

I for one am going crazy about seeing this movie. Not saying I think it will be good...in fact there is a chance it could ruin anime forever. Lets just pray this wont be another....everything that has gone from animated to live action movie. haha. One thing I am sick of is people talking smack about the show, when its obvious they have never took 10 minutes out of their pointless lives to watch it. I suppose ignorance is bliss.

  1. Peosi Says:

What a shame this movie that is getting criticism and boycott from around the world is going to ruin the career of such a good looking actress
