Jessica Biel knew she wasn't like everyone else on the set of Easy Virtue. Not only was she taking on a role completely different from what she was used to, she was the only American on the set in rural England, acting alongside the likes of Kristin Scott Thomas, Colin Firth, and Prince Caspian star Ben Barnes.
But Biel said in our interview that the challenge of playing Larita, a feisty 1920s divorcee who marries the son of a crumbling British aristocrat family, was a challenge she welcomed. And when it came to rattling off the rapid-fire Noel Coward dialogue, it wasn't Biel who had trouble-- it was modern audiences, unaccustomed to that kind of theatrical language.
Below check out my exclusive one-on-one interview with Biel, in which she talks about journeying across the pond to take on a new kind of role and surprise herself most of all. Easy Virtue opens this Friday.
