Guardians Of The Galaxy Poster Puts The Anti-Heroes In Action Poses
The name-brand superheroes are having their say. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has tallied close to $700 million worldwide. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is swinging through theaters, and X-Men: Days of Future Past is on deck. But Disney and Marvel Studios want to remind people that they have a left-of-center option reaching theaters in August, and so a few choice Guardians of the Galaxy dominoes started falling today. Earlier, we ran our first report from the movie’s set, where Guardians star Chris Pratt told our own Eric Eisenberg that the upcoming superhero blockbuster will be "better than Star Wars." And now we have an exclusive poster for the movie, shared by the studio.

The trick of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy will be introducing this oddball collection of anti-heroes to Marvel’s movie-going community. Audiences already recognize Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), and the Hulk is a household name. Not true of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which include a talking raccoon (Bradley Cooper) and a towering tree-like creature named Groot (Vin Diesel).
As you can see by the poster, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel are nowhere to be seen. They only lend their voices to Guardians characters, making this a little bit harder of a sell. And yet, Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldanha are front and center in heroic, sci-fi inspired movie-poster poses. And I expect the rest of the marketing materials for Guardians of the Galaxy to serve as a "Meet the Members of this Team" function… much like the initial teaser trailer did. Get hooked on a feeling again!
Speaking of future marketing materials, Marvel tells us there will be an all-new Guardians of the Galaxy trailer dropping on Monday, May 19. Keep an eye on the movie’s Facebook page for details, and of course, we’ll have it here. Also, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan and director James Gunn are taking part in a Q-and-A that afternoon. So we’re going to learn an awful lot about Guardians of the Galaxy in the coming days. Get excited, Marvel fans!
