Half Of The Avengers Gather In Latest Avengers 2 Photo
When it comes to Avengers 2, we’ll take any little morsel of information we can get, even it comes in the form of the most obscure movie still. And that’s just what today brings. Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans reassemble as Thor, Iron Man and Captain America in a new look at the highly anticipated sequel.
The photo debuted in USA Today’s preview of all the geek-tastic fair coming this year. Unfortunately, it’s odd crop doesn’t reveal much of anything, other than a mysterious porch in the background. You can either take this as a major letdown or as the hidden tidbit it actually is.
Where are these guys? That’s still unclear. When the Avengers first encounter James Spader’s Ultron, as he stumbles in to assault the heroes during their big party at Stark Tower, one thing's for sure: the Avengers aren’t safe at Stark Tower anymore. So now they have to find another base of operations, or at least a hiding place, while they rest and figure out their next move.
We’ve seen this porch before, too. The first time was in that first batch of images where we saw Thor and Cap standing in a living room. The second was in a clip from Avengers 2 that screened during the big Marvel Phase 3 event, showing Cap and Iron Man arguing as they chop wood in front of a house.
Something that may have gone unnoticed the first time around is around the :24 mark, which shows two figures standing on the porch in the background. They look like they could be a father and child, or perhaps it’s just our perspective that makes them look like that. But, if you go back to the photo of Thor and Cap, you can also see something that looks like a child’s drawing hanging on the window. Perhaps this could mean that a civilian welcomes the Avengers onto his or her farm for safety.
Interesting still is the absence of Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in this setting. Based on the clip, we know that they’ve already encountered "The Twins" (Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver) before coming to the farm. Did this battle cause the group to disperse? Ultron is like nothing the Avengers have ever faced, but also add in two products of what Baron von Strucker called "the age of miracles," one of who can weave magic as the other moves faster than anything, and they’ve got a disaster on their hands.
The next Avengers 2 trailer drops January 12, just days after the one for Ant-Man, so hopefully more light will be shed on this mystery porch.
