The year 2015 has already proven itself to be an impressive one for movies, but don't start thinking that you have your personal Top 10 list all figured out. We still have a little less than two months to go before we see the latest entry from Quentin Tarantino - The Hateful Eight - and if the latest trailer is any indication, it should be a contender for a high-ranking slot.
The Weinstein Company has released this brand new spot for Tarantino's latest western, and it looks absolutely terrific. The movie takes the writer/director back to his Reservoir Dogs roots - trapping a bunch of not-so-lovely people in a room together - and it looks like it will be a beautiful, dialogue-and-action heavy cinematic adventure.
The eighth film from Quentin Tarantino (counting Kill Bill as one feature), The Hateful Eight begins in the years just following the Civil War, and centers on a bounty hunter named John Ruth (Kurt Russell), who is transporting a prisoner named Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) across Wyoming to see her hung for her crimes and collect his reward. While on the road, they wind up coming across another notorious bounty hunter by the name of Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. Jackson), and though they agree to ride together, they are eventually side tracked on their trip by a terrible blizzard. Forced to take shelter in a small haberdashery, they wind up being trapped with a group of seedy characters, including Sheriff Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins), British intellectual Oswaldo Mobray (Tim Roth), the Confederate General Sandy Smithers (Bruce Dern), the cowboy Joe Gage (Michael Madsen), and the man running the store, Bob (Demian Bichir).
It’s hard not to have an incredible amount of faith in what The Hateful Eight will have to deliver, and it will be great to see if Quentin Tarantino can bring in audiences the same size as those for his last two movies. The filmmaker has arguably never made a bad feature (at least in this writer’s opinion), but in the last six years film-goers have made a point of showing up for the auteur’s efforts. Inglorious Basterds was the director’s first movie since Pulp Fiction to make more than $100 million domestically, and by the end of its worldwide run Django Unchained pulled in an amazing $425 million. Clearly there is a global hunger for Tarantino’s style, and The Hateful Eight looks as though it is chock full of it.
We’ve been waiting to see this one for a while now, and the wait is almost over. The Hateful Eight will be coming out in 70mm for a special limited release that will begin on Christmas Day, and it will be going nationwide on January 8, 2016.
