International Trailer For Pirates! A Band Of Misfits

Remember when the first Harry Potter movie came out way back in 2001, and it had a different title on either side of the ocean? The original British title Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was considered too intellectual or fancy for American audiences, so they changed it to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone-- I guess the corners of our country that steadfastly defend evolution prove we believe in magic over science. To be fair, this title change happened with the book too, but it set up a precedent for dumbing-down American movie titles that's apparently continuing today.

The British site Empire Online has debuted a clip for a movie they're calling Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists. Of course, in these parts,we've been told it's called Pirates! Band of Misfits. You can pretty much tell the difference on the surface-- one title promises reason, facts and lab coats, while the other promises a ragtag bunch of hoodlums, like the ones this country was founded on. OK, maybe I oversimplify. Anyway, check out the charming new trailer below.

You may recognize a lot of the voices in that trailer, including Hugh Grant as the enthusiastic Pirate and Martin Freeman and Brendan Gleeson as his loyal crew. The movie, from the same delightful minds who brought you Chicken Run, the Wallace & Gromit adventures and the upcoming Arthur Christmas, comes to theaters on March 30 next year.
