I haven’t made up my mind as to whether the Wachowski Brothers take on Speed Racer is going to be something I’m interested in. I’ve never been a big fan of the cartoon, but I do love almost everything the Wachowskis have put out so far. Then there’s the trailer aspect, which makes the movie look like it was shot inside a pinball machine. Again, that still could be cool if it’s done right.
As more advertising comes out for Speed Racer, it’s becoming pretty clear that the stylized meshing of CG and live action isn’t something that’s being done with any kind of subtlety or cleverness. Part of the movie is live action, but the only way to create that cartoon feel the brothers clearly want to remain true to is to base the movie in a CG world. While we’ll have to wait for the theatrical release to see how this works as a cohesive whole, there’s a bit more footage to marvel and gawk at in the international trailers for the movie. Two have been placed on iklipz, found through The Movie Box and embedded below. They also have links to higher resolution versions of the trailers, although they appear to lead to 404 pages right now. Frankly, these iklipz trailers gave me some problems playing too, so it may be we weren’t intended to see these trailers yet. Check out the trailers below to pique your interest further (if you’re curious about the movie) or complain about so me more (if you’re not). Regardless of your interest level, Speed Racer is coming…
