Last year they made Death Sentence, and no one much cared to see Kevin Bacon track down killers as revenge. And a few years ago they made John Q., showing Denzel Washington flipping out and attacking the medical system to protect his son, and no one much liked that either. But the story of a good guy gone rogue for the sake of his family is irresistible, apparently, and Jamie Foxx will be the next to take a stab at it.
The Hollywood Reporter says Foxx will star in Law Abiding Citizen, as a man who takes his revenge on the murderers of his wife and daughter when the perps are released on a plea bargain, plus the members of the legal system who made the deal-- just for good measure. Gerard Butler will play an assistant D.A. who presumably becomes one of the targets.
Frank Darabont helped write the screenplay but isn't yet signed on to direct. Maybe he could make this tried-and-true story something finally worth watching?
