Jennifer Lawrence Joins Dumb & Dumber 2

At 23, Jennifer Lawrence has already snagged a bunch of high-notch achievements pined for by actresses all over the world. She’s won an Academy Award (for Silver Linings Playbook). She’s played a superhero (Mystique of X-Men: First Class), and she’s fronted an immensely popular and groundbreaking franchise (The Hunger Games). But while filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Lawrence took a side-gig that is surely one she never even dared to dream of: she joined the cast of Dumb and Dumber To. You might think I’m being glib about her enthusiasm for this job, but check out Lawrence on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

She literally knows every word to Dumb and Dumber. THR reports that on a day off from Mockingjay’s production, she spent a day on the 1994 comedy’s long-awaited sequel Dumb and Dumber To. Both films are currently in production in Atlanta, and insiders say the entirety of the Mockingjay cast has swung by to say hi to Jim Carrey and company. But Lawrence will actually appear in the film in a noteworthy role.

Dumb and Dumber To picks up twenty years after the original with Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Carrey) gearing up for another road trip. An ailing Harry is in need of a new kidney, so the bumbling best friends go off to track down his long-lost daughter who they hope can serve as a donor. Nope, it’s not the daughter role that Lawrence scored. Remember how Kathleen Turner has signed on to play Fraida Feltcher, who fans of the first film will remember got down with both of the titular idiots in her youth? According to THR, Lawrence will play the young Fraida in a flashback. It’s unknown if Harry and Lloyd will be seen in flashback, and if so who would play them. But personally, I’d hope they’d have Carrey and Daniels do it over bringing in Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd stars Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson. Let's all just continue to forget that prequel exists, shall we?

Dumb and Dumber directors Bobby and Peter Farrelly are back to helm this sequel. Joining Carrey and Daniels in reprising their roles from the first movie is Cam Neely, who played the bullying trucker Sea Bass. Also on board are Rachel Melvin, Steve Tom, Lauren Holden, and Rob Riggle. Dumb and Dumber To is expected to hit theaters in 2014. In the meantime, Lawrence will hit theaters in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook follow-up American Hustle, and Susanne Bier’s Serena, which reteams her with her Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper.
