Justice League Movie In Shambles

By Katey Rich: 2008-01-10 09:31:44
Justice League Movie In Shambles With dozens of high-profile projects on hold thanks to the writers’ strike, rumors about the Justice League of America movie have sometimes been the only thing keeping us going. But now it’s looking like good ol’ JLA might be falling victim to the strike too, as reported by the Australian news site News.com.au.

"It's a big shambles," says “a film insider” in the article. They say that the movie is in pre-production at Australia’s Moore Park Fox Studios, but much of the crew hasn’t yet returned from summer vacation (remember, Australia has summer when we have winter—lucky bastards).

It would be fair to say that JLA has been in shambles for a while now, with the constantly changing rumors and revolving door of cast members. Haven’t more people dropped out of this thing than have been cast at this point? It almost seems like a strike delay could do these guys a favor, giving them time to retool and come up with a script that high-level stars like Jessica Biel would actually want to attach themselves to. But given that so many projects haven’t been able to get off the ground at all, it’s easy to imagine them going ahead with the script and making one of the worst superhero movies of all time. I know some purists couldn’t handle seeing the Justice League reduced to camp, but I for one think we could use a good dose of B-movie schlock in capes and tights.

The only problem with the movie is the cast.... But that's a pretty big problem. I hope they take an extra month or two to sign better names to the big three.

Justice League is no longer moving faster than a speeding bullet. The Executives at Warner Bros. let the options lapse on the young cast that director George Miller had chosen to play DC superheroes. The studio confirmed Wednesday the project is on indefinite hold and may be scrapped altogether.
Cast members were informed late Tuesday their options would not be exercised.
Warner Bros. is now looking to move ahead with a sequel to Superman Returns as soon as the writers strike is settled.

The “Mortal” in the title will be in reference to an already dead Superman. Batman has been kicked out of the Justice League and Superman has died in an epic battle with Doomsday. All of this will make sense as Warner Brother’s moves forward with Justice League:Mortal and Superman, The Man of Steel. Like it or not Bryan Singer is on board(I believe he is the right director for Superman) and Warner’s has signed him for the next Superman movie and writers are hard at work pitching their version to Warners. Justice League:Mortal has been pushed out to a 2010 release and I believe it is because Superman, The Man of Steel will be released first in 2009. Tie this in with The Dark Knight being released this May and Warners has the making of three super hero block busters three years in a row with a sequel to Justice League:Mortal coming in 2011. That Justice League sequel will include Christian Bale and Brandon Routh in their respective roles as Batman and Superman.

  1. The Dog Says:

Why Why Why can people not get that brandon routh and bryan singer messed up superman and shouldnt be allowed within a mile of any dc movie!!
Ok, so superman returns took the chris reeve style of superman ie tall and skinny but if you take a look at every superman story in the comics tht ever shifted a decent amount of copies, have any of them featured his style of superman? erm, no!
I think its worth noting that the only members of the justice league that have merited and justified their own decent level movies have been superman and batman, and that the friction and tension between the two is a cornerstone of the entire justice league idea!

So come on studios, get with the picture and start getting the on screen characters actually resembling the comic book characters they are based on.
ahaow hard can it be to make an actor beef up for a role?
Or alternatively start looking outside the usual casting zones, like fitness and bodybuilding centres, even possibly places like Ring Of Honour wrestling, TNA or The WWE!!
