Mama Will Wreak Havoc On Blu-ray In May

With a January release date, it seemed like Mama might have a little bit of trouble during its theatrical release. Luckily, people did come out to the theater in the weeks post-holidays to catch the flick, bringing over $112 million worldwide. If you are quite ready for the flick to be released into homes, Universal Studios Home Entertainment says Mama will be available on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand on May 7. Digital copies will be available early, on April 23. You can check out the Blu-ray trailer for the flick, below.

The horror flick was director Andres Muschietti’s feature length debut and as such, it did pretty well for a movie made on a $15 million budget. It probably helped that the trailer for the film was completely creeptastic, and besides, Guillermo del Toro was involved as an executive producer with the project, which made for some pretty nice text on all the posters. Add a dash of this year’s critical darling Jessica Chastain and Universal found a winning formula.

Even with the successful box office run and talk of a sequel, I’m still a little surprised at how much work is being put into the Mama Blu-ray and DVD sets. Horror flicks are notorious for lacking in the bonus features department, but this time around, the Mama set shouldn’t disappoint. Not only will the Blu-ray come in a combo pack with Ultraviolet and a few other extras, DVD sets will even get most of the bonus features, too. You can check out the full list of extras, below.
