Michael Cera Says No Arrested Development Movie

By Josh Tyler: 2008-09-30 05:30:50
Michael Cera Says No Arrested Development Movie Every time an Arrested Development alum has a new project, they make the press rounds and drop hints about the possibility of an Arrested Development movie. Michael Cera however, may have finally put the speculation to rest.

Speaking to the National Post, Michael Cera expressed not only his disbelief in the possibility of his movie, but his complete disinterest as well. He tells them that he’s heard nothing about plans for a film (apparently he has never seen an interview with Jason Bateman) and adds, “I don't think I would want to see a movie of the series if I was a fan, anyway.” He suggests you Arrested Development fans give it up and get your fill another way. Says Cera, “I don't really see a need for it if you can get the three seasons on DVD.”

If there were really a movie happening, odds are Cera would know something about it, as one of the show’s key castmembers. It sounds like even if there is one, they’ll be doing it without him. He’s got plenty of other things to do.

  • The movie will make a fortune in sales when it goes on DVD, too. One of the few shows that gets better the more you watch it. I hope Ed Begley Jr makes an appearance in the flick, getting fitted for neck hair or an eyebrow or something!
  • Oh yes Michael is just soooooo busy playing the same character he's played since going on Arrested Development. Also, it seems as if Cera really isn't listening to the fans because we are all saying we want an arrested development movie very very badly.
  • Yeah, the guy in the $6000 suit is gonna go to the cinemas with the workers and see an arrested development movie COME ON!
  • This is an old interview, from the typically unreliable National Post. He spoke to them two weeks ago.

    Four days ago he said:

The actor would gladly reprise his role as George-Michael Bluth if "Arrested Development" creator Mitchell Hurwitz "decided it was something he wants to do." Says Cera: "If he was going to proceed with it, he would want to make sure it was going to be done right."

I think a movie will be killer. This show's grown and grown over the years and with a good script it'll go far and wide
  • Old quote, he's said he's up for it since.
  • This interview's now a month old and he's said he's willling to be involved (if it's a good script) at least twice since then.

I really hope they make a movie. I'm fascinated by the potential of an AD cinema franchise - could do for comedy films what the show did to the sitcom.

I think it will bring in the bucks, which I know is the main sticking point. The film has a built in audience of, say, 10 million fans, most of whom will go twice to either spot the hidden jokes or show their support. Plus it will likely get rave reviews and they'll learn from the marketing mistakes of the TV series.

Just to see GOB being bombastic and dramatic on the big screen is worth the price of admission. COME ON!
