Michael Moore Tackles Homophobia
Michael Moore won’t be happy until every group in existence hates his guts. I would love to see Moore tackle some lighthearted topic sometime, like penguin migration, just to see who he ticked off in the process. Instead he keeps aiming for the bigger, easier to offend groups. So far he’s hit corporations (Roger and Me), the NRA (Bowling for Columbine), the government (Fahrenheit 9/11), and most recently the insurance industry (SiCKO). So what’s next? How about Christianity?
I don’t think even Moore is foolish enough to take on organized religion, so the actual subject of his next documentary will be Homophobia, at least according to a quote appearing on Slashfilm (it’s clear the quote comes from “the Advocate” although which one isn’t attributed).
Moore says: “I think it’s a very ripe subject for someone like me to make a movie about. Simply because we are not there yet and it remains one of the last open wounds on our soul that we are not willing to fix yet,” Moore told The Advocate. “There is nowhere in the four Gospels where Jesus uses the word homosexual.’ The right wing has appropriated this guy … and they have used him to attack gays and lesbians, when he never said a single word against people who are homosexual. Anyone who professes to be a Christian and does that is certainly not following the teachings of Jesus Christ.”
So, Homophobia may be the button Moore is pressing, but it really looks like he’s setting out to chastise Christian consortiums for their stance on the issue more than promoting Homosexuality as a viable option. Clearly that makes for a more debatable film, doesn’t it? No doubt Moore will grab some attention for this one and, as usual, it’ll be surrounded by endless controversy. Let’s just hope the same mysterious source leaks this one online as well (thanks Michael Moore).
