The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones Headed To Blu-ray And DVD In December

Most of the studios have really been pushing to try to get a brand new teen book to movie franchise off of the ground and making money for a while. Earlier this year, Cassandra Clare’s popular City of Bones novel was adapted into a film that didn’t pull Twilight numbers, but did manage to make its budget back thanks to the worldwide box office. If you are a fan of the YA novel franchise and didn’t get to catch the flick in theaters, you’ll be able to do so when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment brings The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones on to Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on December 3.

”Mortal

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is a tale that is part fantastical and part romantic in nature. It tells of a society of Shadowhunters who fight against demons across the world and try to avoid any unpleasant confrontations with vampires or werewolves. One day, a seemingly normal New York teenager named Clary Fray (Lily Collins) finds herself in the middle of this fantastical world of Shadowhunters. New York will never look exactly the same again, especially after Clary meets a young Shadowhunter named Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower). Here’s a trailer for the movie explaining a little more.

The book is a New York Times bestseller, and for a while it looked like we would be getting a sequel based on the second book in the Mortal Instruments series called City of Ashes. Unfortunately, it looks like that project has been permanently placed on hold, which means it is highly unlikely that the second movie will ever happen, although DVD sales have helped movies to get sequels in the past.

While fans may not be getting that second film, the movie does a decent job of bringing the book to life, and fans will get to spend plenty of time with the cast and crew via the bonus features in the set. The PG-13 flick will actually come with quite a few extras. While Blu-ray copies of the movie will come with a few exclusive behind-the-scenes featurettes, extras will also come with the DVD, including a segment on the stunts and another on the characters in the film. You can check out the full list of bonus features, below, or pre-order the set over at Amazon.
