With the rumors flying around about Edward Norton’s bad behavior on the set of The Incredible Hulk and the release date nearing, the latest take on the big green monster needs some good publicity, and fast. Now, they’ve got the poster that may be the solution to get the fans excited again. Or, well, maybe not.
The poster, which you can see below, is an effective tease of the Hulk, who we’ve still only seen in brief glimpses in the trailer. The Hulk is standing in the classic “beleaguered hero” pose, and the helicopters coming at him get across the evil government subplot that seems to be the main target of the movie.
But the problem for me here is Bruce Banner, who actually faces front and is the real focal point of the poster. Yes, it gets across the transformation quickly, and the idea of a man battling against an entirely different part of himself. But does he have to be dressed so much like a janitor? And with his head hanging down like that, it evokes memories of the super-emotional Ang Lee Hulk, which everyone seems to rather forget.
So it’s a bit of a mixed bag, which has been the case with all of the Hulk promos thus far. Can it recover from all this bad buzz? Will Edward Norton even promote the thing? Seems to me they ought to keep talking about that 25-minute fight scene at the end of the film, and hope the comic book fans show up for that and ignore everything else that might go wrong.
