I still haven’t made my mind up about Tropic Thunder. On one hand, it looks like a pretty cool concept – a filmamker, tired of the bullshit his actors are putting him through, drops them in the middle of a real war zone and films the results. On the other hand, a lot of the cast’s work is spotty, especially Ben Stiller and Jack Black, with some great successes and some dismal failures. I just can’t decide which side of the spectrum this movie will fall.
The new red band trailer isn’t helping my decision much. It offers up some more of the different characters’ backstories, including a parody of Eddie Murphy’s shortcomings and an explanation of Robert Downey Jr.’s African American transformation. Like before, some of this is good and some I could do without, keeping me up in the air about this movie’s final result. I can guarantee that I’ll hate this movie if that Eddie Murphy parody is any longer in the final film than it is in this trailer though.
Here’s the new red band trailer, which is also available at the Tropic Thunder website, with links to an HD version in iTunes (although you do have to pass the age registration process to get to the good stuff there). The trailer includes some gratuitous violence (nice!) and a little bit of explicit language. This is the kind of movie that needs those things though, so the fact that we keep getting red band trailers is actually a good thing.

Hey listen, as someone who has seen the movie and who is REALLY looking forward to seeing it again, don't fret. The "Eddie Murphy" fart stuff is really short in the beginning and Robert Downy is what really makes this movie (and Tom Cruise). It's really funny and a good watch. Don't discount it.. go see and enjoy.
