Pacific Rim To Get A Prequel Graphic Novel, New Propaganda-Style Poster Revealed

It's not exactly a secret that Guillermo del Toro is a big fan of comics. He has directed three comic book movies in his career - Blade II, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army and has long professed to being an avid reader. And while his next film, Pacific Rim, has no specific comic book ties (it's based on an original screenplay by Travis Beacham), it will by the time the movie will be released.

Legendary Comics - which is a subsidiary of Legendary Pictures (the company producing Pacific Rim) - has announced that del Toro is working on a prequel to Pacific Rim that will be printed as a graphic novel. The book is being written by Beacham and will reportedly give some back story to the characters in the film and recount the events that led up to it. The press release for the comic says it will be split into three separate parts "covering the in-world history from the first attack up to just before the movie." There will be some characters focused on that don't appear in the feature, but apparently Stacker Pentecost, the character played by Idris Elba, appears in all three chapters and will follow his ascension to commander. The graphic novel was announced at New York Comic Con, but no release date has been set.

But that's not all the cool news I have for those of you looking forward to del Toro's new movie. The official Facebook page has posted a brand new propaganda-style one sheet that you can see below.

Pacific Rim will be in theaters on July 12th and you can read more about it in our Blend Film Database.
