Robert Downey Jr. Now Thinks That This Is The Best Marvel Movie
It would be an understatement to say that Robert Downey Jr. is Marvel’s golden boy. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest star (although Chris Pratt may have something to say about that soon), he’s been a part of it since the beginning, and if his vague comments are any indication, his time with Marvel won’t be ending soon even though Iron Man 4 evidently isn’t happening. Earlier this year, he said that in some ways, Guardians of the Galaxy "is the best Marvel movie ever." However, now the Guardians have been demoted to second place, because Downey has found a new film to take top prize.
In an interview with Social Chicago TV, Downey said that next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will be Marvel’s best feature, and admitted his tendency to flip-flop on these rankings.
At this rate, Downey may be changing his mind about every year, and it’s understandable. Although some fans have disliked films like Iron Man 3 (sorry, Downey) and Thor: The Dark World, Marvel has yet to release a film that hasn’t been (overall) critically and commercially successful. It’s hard to tell from just set pictures and the brief footage that the lucky San Diego Comic-Con goers got to see, it sounds like Age of Ultron will be no exception. More isn’t always better, but with James Spader as Ultron, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch joining the ranks, J.A.R.V.I.S. being upgraded to Vision, and Hulkbuster armor, this movie will have plenty of exciting offerings. Anything less would disgraceful for the final film of Phase 2.
Just give us a trailer soon, Marvel! The Avengers released its first trailer in October 2012, and while rumors suggest that the preview will be attached to Interstellar, it’s possible Marvel will post it online sooner. So be on the lookout for the next several weeks. Once it’s out, we’ll have a better idea if Downey’s claim is true.
Who’s taking bets that by next July, Downey will claim Ant-Ma is Marvel’s best movie? His movie father is in it (John Slattery as Howard Stark), so that might mean he’d be somewhat biased.
