Even though the film festival portion of South By doesn’t officially end until Friday, tonight the vibe here on the streets of Austin had already changed. The music section of the festival has started rolling, and that means everyone’s attention has shifted from watching movies to getting drunk and wandering through the streets looking for hip, indie bands or, alternatively, a nice gutter to throw up in.

So the SXSW jury, knowing that by tomorrow morning everyone will be too hung over to even remember they saw any movies, announced the winner of this year’s batch of SXSW Festival awards tonight. As usual, I managed to avoid seeing any of the winners. Well done I’d say. I did however, see a lot of really great movies, the rest of which I’ll be posting reviews and coverage of over the next few days as we wrap up our SXSW visit. See, instead of getting drunk and banging groupies, I’ll actually be working. I guess that’s what happens when you bring your wife with you.

Without further ado, here’s the winners of the 2008 SXSW Film Festival:
